LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Kurt Hendricks, peer educatorMany of the millions of young people orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in Africa possess exceptional talent and energy, waiting to be nurtured and unleashed. With our support and investment they can rise to the challenge of filling the huge leadership gap left by AIDS in Africa. Over the long term, they offer the greatest hope for Africa’s future prosperity and self-sufficiency.

Building on our existing successes, HOPEHIV has developed a unique new leadership initiative – generationAFRICA. This uses our extensive network of local partners to identify and equip potential leaders from within the orphan generation across sub-Saharan Africa.  These young people will in turn take responsibility for mobilising their communities and nations to respond to the challenges confronting them.

Gordon Brown

“It used to be said what can we do for Africa; what can we do about Africa? But what matters is what Africa, empowered, can do for herself.  And that’s what generationAFRICA is all about”

The Rt Honourable Gordon Brown MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer at the launch of generationAFRICA at 11 Downing Street, 28 November 2005.
