SWAZILAND

ChildrenMountainous Swaziland is Africa's smallest nation and one of the few remaining absolute monarchies. Its land-locked economy relies heavily on agriculture and soil erosion, floods, drought and over-grazing all cause significant problems. AIDS is a huge problem and HIV infection rates are the highest in the world with an estimated one in three people infected. School fees in Swaziland are also extremely high, creating barriers to even a basic education for many orphans

HOPEHIV has been working in Swaziland since 2003 providing educational and psycho-social support to children recently orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Kids' Adventure Camps each year help to identify and strengthen links with children and families most in need. Increasingly the project is working with Child-headed households, equipping orphaned adolescents to be able to care for their younger siblings.
