MALAWI

childrenAIDS is having a huge impact on Malawi, claiming an estimated 10 lives an hour and leaving increasing numbers of children parentless. Malawi relies heavily on agriculture and drought and famine can leave orphaned families in particular, devastated and struggling to survive. Households headed up by children as young as 11 are increasing every day.

HOPEHIV was inspired by the success of the Masiye camp in Zimbabwe which highlighted and creatively addressed the grief and trauma that orphans often face. As a result we have been training community volunteers across Malawi since 2002 to meet both the emotional and the practical needs of orphaned and vunerable children through setting up Kids' Clubs and funding Malawi Consol Homes Orphan Care.
