APPLYING FOR FUNDING

All decisions to fund new projects are made by the HOPEHIV Board of Trustees who meet every three months.

Funding enquiries should be directed in the first instance to info@hopehiv.orgBefore you contact us please check whether your proposed project meets our funding criteria (below).

Please provide us with a brief summary (max 1 page) of your proposal including the amount of funding sought - we are unlikely to consider awards in excess of £10,000 for new proposals. Our Projects Office (based in Cape Town) will contact you if we are able to take your application further.  Please not that, owing to the volume of emails we receive, unfortunately we cannot guarantee to respond to every enquiry.

All funding requests must meet the following criteria

  • A clear focus on assistance for children affected or made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS, in particular orphans
  • Detailed local needs analysis
  • Evidence of extensive consultation with all relevant stakeholders including intended beneficiaries, other local agencies, civic and regional authorities, community leaders and people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Clearly stated programme objectives, anticipated outputs and desired outcomes.
  • A long term project sustainability or exit plan
  • Strong and transparent monitoring, evaluation, project and financial reporting systems
  • Broad based community support and collaboration
  • A strong emphasis on empowerment and community development principles

Highest priority will be given to projects which emphasise

  • Innovation – pioneering new approaches or learning lessons which could be shared with others.
  • Multiplication – seeking to share knowledge and good practice, build human/community capacity and scale out programme responses.
  • Leadership Development – identifying possible orphan leaders and investing in their potential to become agents of positive change, mobilising their communities for action and advocating on behalf of other orphans and vulnerable children.

We will not fund

  • Projects which are primarily about emergency relief or welfare provision (eg. food, shelter, blankets)
  • Drugs or treatment services unless a subsidiary element of a more holistic community programme
  • Long term institutional care
  • Political or evangelistic campaigns
  • Prevention/education programmes which promote exclusively abstinence based approaches and refuse to include condom use as a viable option

Please note that we are currently only considering applications for funding in the following countries: Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
