KIBERA SLUMS NURSERY SCHOOL

Kids at Kibera SchoolPeter is just six years old. He lives with his elderly granny in the heart of Kibera slum in Nairobi and two years ago, his future looked bleak. But then he was selected to attend the free Kibera preschool, run by The Salvation Army, and currently fully funded by a dedicated HOPEHIV donor. Two years on, his literacy and numeracy have improved enormously and so has his health, thanks to the nutritious meals he is now able to eat every day. He's a bright, cheerful little boy who wants to be an aeroplane pilot when he grows up. By offering him the chance for a quality education, we're giving him his first steps to making that dream come true.

Kids singing at Kibera SchoolKibera Nursery School is in the heart of a huge Nairobi slum. 75 orphaned pre-school children attend the nursery and are provided with breakfast and lunch every day, meals they otherwise will not get. If any of the children are ill the school pays for the doctor's fee and basic medication. Home visits and support are also provided to orphans and their guardians. Over the years the dedicated teachers at the school have struggled on low, and sometimes no, pay. Thanks to HOPEHIV they are now sure they can continue with their life changing work as we have found a regular donor who covers all their operating costs. Just this year, we were also able to build a bright new playground, replacing the dangerous and broken equipment that had served them for many years.
