We see hope in Edwin.
Edwin’s father passed away two years ago, leaving him and his five siblings in the care of their stepmother, who is a vegetable vendor in Mutare, Zimbabwe. HOPEHIV partner Simukai Child Protection spotted that Edwin was at risk of ending up on the streets, so paid for him to learn Motor Vehicle Maintenance at Mutare Professional College and supported him through the course. Edwin passed his Certificate with the second best marks in the class and has continued on to take the Diploma, which he is due to complete in 2011. Edwin is using his toolkit to fix cars at weekends with his friend, earning them about $20 to 30 profit. Once he has completed his Diploma, Edwin hopes to open his own workshop.
